Cumin, a member of the parsley family, is an ancient spice native to the Mediterranean region. Its strong deep aroma and peppery flavour makes cumin a staple in the world of spices, from Moroccan to Tunisia food, in Mexican, Middle Eastern and Indian cooking and also in much of south Asia and Indonesia. Cumin also has renowned healing properties.

|Full Description||WHAT IT DOES - FOOD Cumin is warming. In South Asia, cumin tea (dry seeds boiled in hot water) is used to distinguish false labour (due to gas) from real labour. In Sri Lanka, toasting cumin seeds and then boiling them in water makes a tea used to soothe acute stomach problems. People in parts of South Asia commonly believe cumin seeds help with digestion. Some scientific evidence suggests cumin may aid digestion by stimulating enzymes to break down foods. HOW TO USE Cumin is either used whole or ground. It is popular in the cuisine through the west Asian countries, the Middle East, North Africa as well as Cuba and Mexico and also in China. In Europe it can also be found particularly in the Netherlands and France. It is part of the spice blend garam masala and many curry powders and chilli blends.|
