All about Macadamia Nuts
Native to Australia, specifically New South Wales and Queensland, macadamia nuts come from the fruit of the macadamia tree. However, Africa is currently the biggest producer of macadamia nuts, especially South Africa. The fruit grows in little clusters and are hard and green, hiding the rich brown nut that turns yellow-white when roasted. Macadamia nuts are rich in dietary antioxidants which help maintain gut health, and their low carb and sugar levels make them especially beneficial for people with diabetes. They have a rich and buttery flavour which is very similar to cashews, and many people use them interchangeably in a variety of recipes.
How to Use Macadamias
Macadamia nuts are a popular ingredient for bakers, and can be found in recipes for cookies, fudges, and muffins. They aren’t quite as popular in less sweet dishes but can also sometimes be found as a garnish for salads and salsas.
